ARGENTINA ADVANCE AT SCOTS' EXPENSE

Scotland lost narrowly, 5-7, to Argentina in the Plate quarter finals in Hong Kong, in the early hours of this morning ending their participation in this leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.

Both teams went in 0-0 at half-time, but a converted try by Argentina early in the second half saw them take the lead. However, a late try from Greig Laidlaw brought the Scots back into the game but it wasn't enough to carry them through to the semi-finals.

'There's disappointment again,' said Scotland 7s coach Stephen Gemmell. 'It was an improved performance from yesterday but the confidence was a bit low. We have another chance against Argentina in Adelaide so we need to carry out a big debrief and regroup in time for next week's competition.'

Russia overcame Zimbabwe to win the Bowl final, France beat Argentina to take the Plate and New Zealand stole the points over South Africa, 26-12, to secure the Cup later in the day.

The World Series now heads south to Adelaide for the sixth leg of the tournament, building up to the finale in Scotland on 31 May/1 June with the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s.

Scotland 7s Pool A fixtures in Adelaide: Cook Islands (kick-off 12.15pm); Argentina (3.21pm) and New Zealand (7.26pm) (all times local Adelaide).
