SCOTS REBOOT FOR WELLINGTON EVENT

The Scotland 7s' team continue their journey towards the IRB World Cup Sevens, and ultimately the finale of the IRB Sevens World Series in Edinburgh, when they travel to the New Zealand Sevens in Wellington on 6 and 7 February.

The Scots have been handed one of the most challenging draws of the tournament as they were pulled out of the bag alongside the winners of the first two legs of the Series - namely South Africa - an on-form Kenya side and Pacific Islanders Tonga.

Scotland 7s' coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: “Because of our results in Dubai and South Africa, our draw was always going to be difficult. We just need to continue focussing on ourselves."

“South Africa have won the first two tournaments of the season and Kenya and Tonga are both top-eight teams," he continued.

“We beat Tonga in New Zealand last year, but they’re going into their first tournament of the season so will be looking to put down a marker early on.

“Kenya will be another tough test because they’ve already won both of our meetings in Dubai and South Africa.

“However, we’ll be working hard over the coming weeks to ensure our own performance improves. Looking at our draw, we know that anything other than our best will not be good enough.”
