Argentina 12 - 7 Scotland Scotland lost their second pool game,against Argentina, meaning the latter ensured safe passage into the Cup quarter finals. Martin Miguel Nunez Lasalle and Benjamin Urpadilleta touched down for a 12-0 half time lead and, although Scotland hit back through Roddy Grant, Argentina's defence held them at arm's length. France 24 - 12 Scotland Les Bleus scored four tries by Paul Albaladejo, Mathieu Acebes, Joffrey Michel and Jacques Boussuge to Scotland's two by Scott Riddell.
The Scotland 7s team will play Samoa in the Bowl quarter-final following two further Pool B defeats on day two of the IRB Sevens World Series event in Adelaide.
Adelaide is the sixth stage of the eight leg IRB Sevens World Series which culminates at the home of rugby sevens, Scotland, at the Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens Festival at Murrayfield on 30 and 31 May.
The day started against World Cup finalists Argentina where the Scots left it too late to compete against the lively South Americans.
The Pumas established a 12-0 half-time lead before Roddy Grant touched down in the second period. Calum MacRae converted, but it was too little too late.
After the final whistle, Scotland 7s coach Stephen Gemmell said: “It was an improvement on yesterday, but we lacked a bit of urgency in the first half.
“They slowed the game down effectively at a time when we needed to keep the tempo up.
“In the end, it’s very disappointing because we were in that game against a very good team.”
Next up for Scotland was France who were also chasing their first win of the tournament so far.
The French cruised to a 19-0 half-time lead. Scotland then started to compete after the break as Scott Riddell dotted down twice, Graham Hogg converting one.
Despite Scotland fighting back, a further try from France killed the game for Scotland.
Gemmell said afterwards: “We weren’t clinical with how we went about our business in the first half.
“The second half was better but we can’t afford to give teams a 19-point start at this level.
“We’ll play Samoa tomorrow in the Bowl quarter-final so we must pick ourselves back up and regroup for yet another big test for the squad.”
